What makes Bloom & Power better than other lawn care companies?
We focus on long-term lawn health, not quick fixes. Unlike many providers, we: Treat lawns seasonally, not generically Adjust treatments based on weather, soil type, and usage Avoid unnecessary chemicals and over-treatment Offer clear packages — Seed, Bloom, and Thrive — so you only pay for what you need Whether you just want professional seasonal treatments (Seed), a greener, thicker lawn (Bloom), or full hands-off care including mowing (Thrive), our approach is always tailored — never one-size-fits-all.
What mulch is best for my garden and lawn borders?
The “best” mulch depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Bark mulch – ideal for moisture retention and weed suppression Compost or organic mulch – improves soil structure over time Leaf mould – excellent for wildlife-friendly and shaded gardens As part of our Bloom and Thrive packages, we advise on mulching during seasonal visits and can apply mulch through our Border & Bed Care add-ons. Correct mulching helps lawns too — by improving soil health and reducing competition from weeds around edges.
When is the best time of the year to prune?
The best time to prune depends on the type of plant and what you want to achieve. General UK guidelines: Spring-flowering shrubs (e.g. forsythia) – prune after flowering Summer-flowering shrubs – prune in late winter or early spring Hedges – light trims through spring and summer, avoid hard pruning during nesting season Trees – best pruned in late autumn or winter when dormant Roses – main prune in late winter Pruning at the wrong time can reduce flowering, weaken plants, or encourage disease. As part of our Bloom and Thrive packages, we assess shrubs, hedges, and borders seasonally and recommend the right pruning windows. Pruning work itself can be carried out via our Hedge Trimming and Border & Bed Care add-ons, ensuring plants stay healthy, tidy, and in balance with your lawn.
Why does my lawn look red or pink?
Red or pink patches are usually caused by Red Thread, a common lawn disease in the UK. It’s often triggered by: Low nitrogen levels Damp, mild conditions Compacted or stressed turf The good news? It’s rarely serious. Our Seed and Bloom packages include the correct seasonal feeding to prevent this issue, while Thrive customers benefit from ongoing monitoring and fast intervention. We also offer targeted lawn disease treatments if needed.
How do I tell if I have grubs in my lawn?
Grubs such as chafer larvae or leatherjackets feed on grass roots and can cause: Spongy turf underfoot Yellow or dying patches Increased bird activity pulling at the lawn Turf that lifts easily like a carpet If caught early, damage can be limited. As part of our Bloom and Thrive services, we assess lawn health regularly and can recommend insect control treatments where necessary — avoiding treatment unless it’s genuinely needed.
How often should I water my lawn?
In the UK, most lawns are over-watered rather than under-watered. General guidance: Water deeply and infrequently Early morning is best Avoid light daily watering — it encourages shallow roots During dry spells, lawns benefit more from soil conditioning than constant watering. Our Bloom and Thrive packages include seasonal feeding that strengthens roots, and we offer wetting agent and drought packs to help lawns cope with heat and dry conditions far more effectively than watering alone.
